WHO WE ARE:

The Center for Third World Organizing is a racial justice organization dedicated to building social justice movements led by people of color. We were established in 1980 as a training and resource center that promotes and sustains direct-action organizing in communities of color in the United States.

We believe in creating a pipeline of organizers that are equipped with both the fundamentals of organizing as well as new, innovative, and creative tactics & strategies. We believe that those historically marginalized should lead this fight.


ABOUT THE ROLE:

CTWO is looking for a Communications Coordinator to help manage CTWO’s and the Hub’s (Black Land Liberation Initiative, the BlackOUT Collective and Ruckus Society) communications portfolio.This position will assist the Communications Manager and staff in growing CTWO’s online presence.

The Communications Coordinator will collaborate with the CTWO Hub to lead digital outreach, assist with building our narrative strategy, and grow our audiences through our social media channels, email, and other digital platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Communications Coordinator, you will:

  • Work with the full staff to source and manage all digital communications, including social media channels, our website, and visual communications.
  • Create content, execute, and manage all of CTWO and its hub partners’ (BlackOUT, Ruckus and Black Land Liberation Initiative) social media platforms and assets -- including basic video editing and graphic design.
  • Co-facilitate the development of digital strategies for social, email, website while monitoring and measuring the success of results.
  • Help manage the digital platforms and content (e.g. YouTube, LinkTree, Loomly, Every Action).
  • Identify opportunities and trends—to promote and increase engagement around our organizational initiatives, activities, reports, and overall programming.
  • Stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies that generate leads and help advance our digital outreach.
  • With Communications Manager, coordinate with all teams to ensure that our networks are receiving timely, up-to-date information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • You have experience working with and strong knowledge of graphic design. Experience with video editing software is a plus.
  • You take initiative and are an excellent self-starter
  • You have experience creating and executing digital media.
  • You are a strong copywriter, can adapt style and voice across different audiences/communities.
  • You have a passion for Black and brown-led direct action and Movement work
  • You’re a pro at managing multiple high priority projects at once.
  • You’re committed to a just, inclusive, and liberatory politic that centers Black liberation and joy.
  • You have familiarity and comfort using email content and social media scheduling (e.g Loomly, Agorapulse, Hootsuite) systems. Experience with Every Action is a plus.
  • You’re a creative problem-solver and willing to try new and innovative approaches.

CANDIDATE WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

  • You have at least 1-2 years experience with digital organizing.
  • You have a passion for building and advancing political power within Black, Indigenous, and communities of color.
  • Digital campaigning experience, and - if none - a strong commitment of learning new skills and tools quickly.
  • You have social media and rapid response experience.
  • You have existing relationships with creatives, micro influencers, and community leaders.
  • You are detail and solutions oriented.
  • Strong collaborator and team player.
  • Enthusiastic about social media trends and new platforms, such as Tik Tok and IG Reels.

COMPENSATION

The position is full-time (32 hours per week), exempt, fully benefits eligible, reports to the Communications Manager and is paid an annual salary of $60,000-65,000.
