POSITION: COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: Strategic Initiative and Impact Department, Communications Team

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Strategic Initiative and Impact

The Center for Third World Organizing is a racial justice organization dedicated to building social justice movements led by people of color. We were established in 1980 as a training and resource center that promotes and sustains direct-action organizing in communities of color in the United States.

We believe in creating a pipeline of organizers that are equipped with both the fundamentals of organizing as well as new, innovative, and creative tactics & strategies. We believe that those historically marginalized should lead this fight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position is full-time (32 hours per week), exempt, fully benefits eligible, reports to the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives and Impact and is paid an annual salary of $70,000-80,000, based on experience and skillset.

We are looking for a Communications and Narrative Strategist to manage, support and grow the CTWO’s hubs, communications public presence and infrastructure. This position will supervise the Communications Coordinator and oversee the growth of CTWO’s online presence and digital channels - which include our hub partners, The BlackOUT Collective and The Ruckus Society.

The Communications Manager will promote the work and thought leadership of staff, develop and track messaging related to our missions and will work alongside the Communications Coordinator to build out creative narrative strategies through our social media channels, website, email, creative assets, and other digital platforms.


As Communications Manager you will…

  • Lead and coordinate the Communications Team at CTWO, including supervision of Communications Coordinator
  • Lead the development and oversee the implementation of an organization wide Narrative Strategy that grows the Hubs online and offline presence.
  • Led the development and drafting of all Newsletters and email communication across the Hub.
  • Supervise the Communications Coordinator in the managing of social media platforms across the Hub.
  • Identify opportunities, write copy, and develop materials with other relevant staff members to promote and publicize organizational initiatives, activities, reports, and content.
  • Project manage large design projects (website, annual reports, and impact reports, etc.) and coordinate contractors affiliated with aforementioned projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Previous supervision experience is required.
  • 5+ years as a communications professional
  • Excellent writer.
  • You take initiative and are an excellent self-starter
  • You have experience creating and executing digital media.
  • You have a passion for Black and brown-led direct action and advocacy work
  • You have a keen awareness of the news cycle and how CTWO’s worldview might fit into it.
  • You’re a pro at multitasking and working in a dynamic environment.
  • You’re committed to a just, inclusive, and liberatory politic that centers Liberation of oppressed people.
  • You have experience working with and strong knowledge of graphic design and video editing software, as well as familiarity and comfort using email content and audience management systems.
  • You’re creative and innovative, willing to try new approaches to solving old problems.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • You’re familiar with Organizing as skill
  • You have social media and rapid response experience.
  • You have existing relationships with reporters, movement and media figures.
  • You are interested in, or have experience with digital strategy
  • You have management experience.
  • You are a creative thinker willing to think beyond and outside of the box.

COMPENSATION

CTWO offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive, progressive benefits program to attract, retain, and motivate a high-performing and dedicated workforce. The salary for this full-time position is $70,000-80,000 a year. This is a 32-hour per week position.
